In Healthy Lighting, Light Is Not Only on the Desk \u2014 It Enters the Eyes and the Body<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">In conventional lighting design, the most common calculation target has been: <em>Horizontal illuminance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">In other words, how many lux are delivered to a desk, floor, or working plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">This remains important for visual tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">But healthy lighting requires a broader question: <em>Does the right light, with the right spectrum, intensity, direction, and timing, enter the human eye and provide the appropriate biological signal?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">This is where EDI \/ DER becomes important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">\u7b80\u5355\u6765\u8bf4\uff1a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\"><em>EDI helps us understand the equivalent stimulus received by different biological light-response channels.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\"><em>DER helps us understand how efficient a light source is in stimulating those channels compared with a reference source.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">But healthy light cannot be reduced to one number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">In particular, melanopic EDI is useful for understanding circadian lighting, daytime alertness support, and lower nighttime biological disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">The same luminaire may produce very different human effects depending on: <em>Space, position, viewing direction, time of day, activity, duration of exposure, and the person using the space.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Therefore, the next generation of profile should not contain only photometric data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">It should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EDI \/ DER<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spectral data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spatial model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eye-position model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Activity model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human-factor model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Only then can healthy lighting move from a marketing claim to a system that can be designed, calculated, verified, and improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:15px\">3. The Real Meaning of an Upgraded IES Profile: From Luminaire Data to Human Light Exposure Data<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">If a future upgraded IES profile can integrate EDI \/ DER, spatial models, and human-factor models, it will no longer be just a luminaire data file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">It will become a new foundation data structure for the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">A traditional profile says:<em> How does this luminaire emit light?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">An upgraded profile begins to ask: <em>Can this luminaire, in this space, at this time, for this activity and this user, deliver the right light exposure?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">This is a critical shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">It means the core object of evaluation in lighting is moving: F<em>rom luminaire performance, to spatial delivery, to actual human exposure.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">This will redefine the roles of lighting designers, software companies, and measurement instrument companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:15px\">4. For Lighting Designers: From Creating Beautiful Light to Delivering Verifiable Good Light<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Lighting designers will be among the most important players in this transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Traditionally, the value of an excellent lighting designer has been expressed through: <em>Aesthetics, atmosphere, hierarchy, glare control, material expression, emotional tone, and compliance with illuminance levels.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">These remain essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">But in the future, the professional value of designers will be expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Clients will increasingly ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Does this office truly support daytime focus?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does this hotel room support nighttime relaxation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does this classroom provide sufficient daytime light exposure?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does this senior-care environment support circadian stability?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does this home reduce unnecessary biological stimulation before sleep?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">These questions cannot be answered by aesthetics alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">They cannot be answered by CCT alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">Designers will need new tools to say: <em>I am not only designing the visual effect of light.
